Can somebody give some advice please. I would like to take a short bus
tour from the cruise ship docked at alexandria egypt. The cruise co
only offers12 hour to over night tours from that location. Do you think
tour buses will be waiting to take people for short tours. thanks Bee

Hi, Bee,

I don't know if buses will be waiting...you can count on taxis being
there. Here are a few links that might help:

Overview of the port - http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=179

Discussion forum for Africa & Middle East ports where passengers talk
about port excursion options - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=32

Hmmm. I was going to suggest you view the excursions offered by Port
Promotions, but they are limited to the long trips to Cairo /
pyramids.

I looked at your itinerary and shore excursions on the Royal Caribbean
site. There is a city tour of Alexandria -- I gather it didn't appeal
to you or you want to see if there are other options? I think you'll
get some good ideas on the disucssion board (second link above).

I assume you have booked your excursion to see Cairo and the pyramids
from the Port Said stop? If you don't find something that just "grabs
you" to see or do in Alexandria, then what I'd encourarge you to do is
take one of the overnight trips with lodging in Cairo. They appear to
be a great value for what you get. It will make your sightseeing trip
more comfortable, and you will get to see and do more. It's a cultural
eye-opener when you can spend even just a night somewhere--and Cairo
is just amazing. The sights and sounds and mix of old and new are
mesmerizing. If you've never been awakened by the sunrise call to
prayer in a big city, it is a beautiful, moving experience.

The more I think about it, I think the overnight option is definitely
the way to go to maximize your experience in Egypt!

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful time.

We took a wonderful bus tour of Alexandria while there a number of years
ago and enjoyed all of it. I couldn't take the l2 hour tour to Cairo as
I was subject to migraines at the time and knew it would be too long a
day for me.

The museum, etc. were especially interesting and King Farouk's palace
(with Wimpys on the property) I was sorry I couldn't see the pyramids
but know my limitations. Enjoy it all. rosaly

Hi,

I cant even get into the shore excursions with webtv. The travel agent
sent them to me but I didnt see a day tour of alexandria. I did see
pyramids and nile boat ride. It is a 12 hour tour and I dont know if I
can handle it. I would prefer 5 hours at the most. The overnight seems
great but I'm sure my husband would never do that. I will try again at
the library. When I get back I will get a real computer. thanks, Bee

There are now many reasonably price laptop computers that you can take from
room to room, outside on the patio, etc. If you get a WiFi unit like a
Linksys, you can connect anywhere in the house without the need for a wire
connection.

And there is actually a new type of low powered unit called a Netbook which
is basically in internet connection with some limited computer capability
beyond the internet. That could be another option too look at.

My one suggestion is not to tie you down with a desktop. Laptops are much
more convenient. And much easier to take to a friends place in case you
ever need help (which does happen).

Hi, Bee,

Try these links to the Royal Caribbean's pages on your shore
excursions:

Alexandria http://tinyurl.com/yc83kx4
Port Said http://tinyurl.com/y97t8rv

If you want to look at the shore excursions for any other stop on your
cruise, just go to the itinerary page and click on the city name:

Perhaps Avis Rent a camel could help you? ;-)

Tom,

I was looking at netbooks but the screen is so small. It would be
perfect for me if the screen was a little larger. Also AT&T has an Acer
for $200, but you have to sign for two years for $60 a month. Thanks
for the infor. Bee

Diana,

Thanks for the links, I tried but webtv is so ancient all I got was a
blank page. I am seriously thinking of getting a netbook or a laptop
but the monthly fees are so high. Bee
