There are many places to make a stay there, but since you have already mentioned about the hotels there (avoiding them for the high prices), a better option would be to go for rental apartments, so that you can have the luxury of a hotel too and can feel more comfortable on being in an apartment (would feel like home).My cousin too had booked herself an Apartment Meuble Montreal and was pleased by the way things turned out.
