Description:

Little Island, or Jenny Island, as it is known by local
residents, is a lightly wooded island located approximately 3 1/2
miles off the south-easterly shore of Manitoulin Island and
approximately 1/4 mile off the north-east corner of Fitswilliam
Island. Although the deed to the island read 1/2 acre, realistically
its area is closer to 2 acres.

Little Island is a historically significant commercial
fishing outport where the fisherman and their families would live and
work for the entire fishing season. Their homes and work places remain
on the island in various stages of deterioration along with artifacts
from the fishing industry at the time (1800s to mid 1900s).

Access to Manitoulin Island from Southern Ontario is by
ferry, the Chi-Cheemaun. The ferry completes multiple crossings daily
from Tobermory to South Baymouth. The ferry operates from early May to
mid-October.

Year round access to Manitoulin Island from Sudbury and
Northern Ontario is via the Trans-Canada Highway No. 17 and Highway
No. 6 and the bridge at Little Current.

Small airports are located on Manitoulin Island and at
Tobermory.
