We're traveling from Minneapolis to Munich this summer to meet friends
from Moscow for the World Cup. We're then planning on traveling to Moscow for a week. I'm looking at two round trip tickets: MSP-MUC-MSP and MUC-SVO-MUC on two different airlines. My question is, when returning from Moscow, we'll need to change airline carriers in Munich (Aerflot to NWA) and I'm assuming I may not be able to check our luggage all the way to MSP. If this is the case and we have to pick up our lugage, do we have to clear customs in order to board our next flight? And if so, how much time should I allow? Thanks, SDK |

You probably won't be able to through-check your bags. You WILL have to clear customs if that's the case. I would allow *at least* 5 hours between flights - it won't take that long, but if you're delayed on your first leg from SVO-MUC (it is Aeroflot!) then you could have problems for the second leg - and as that's a flight to US from Europe, expect stupid, irritating and sloowwwww checkin arrangements. |

What I found searching over the weekend (about 6 hours worth of
hunting) was I can get a MSP-MUC-MSP roundtrip ticket with tax for $1200 (KLM) (MSP depart 6/17 and MUC return 6/30) and then a MUC-SVO-MUC ticket with tax for $400 (Aeroflot) (6/23 MUC depart and 6/30 SVO return), so all said and done $1600. But when I did a MSP-MUC-SVO-MSP with specific departure times (as we're trying to meet friends from Moscow and return with them), the cost was $2100. The difference is $500, but I have two tickets to buy, hence $1000. Sorry if this was unclear and you thought my previous posting was BS. I'm simply trying to find the best price for tickets and am looking for help. |

Downtown Stuttgart to downtown Munich is a little over 2 hours by train. Delta also flies into Stuttgart from Atlanta if that helps. George |

a MSP-MUC-SVO-MSP ticket on KLM and Aerflot for $1550 (including taxes and fees) . This avoids the backtrack thru Munich and the issue with transferring carriers in Munich. Would be interested in any recommendations for hotels in Munich and Nuremburg. Again we're meeting friends from Moscow, so we need to find accomodations for the four of us. ALso, any suggestion on train travel form Munich to Nuremburg too. |

DB will also offer so called RE200 service (regional express train with 200 km/h on HSL). You can use these trains with the "Bayernticket" (up to 5 people after 9am in the state of Bavaria - 22 Euros). Cheapest way from Munich to Nuremberg and will take just a little bit longer - the local traffic in Munich and Nuremberg is included! Note: these tickets are cheaper at ticket machines! Josef |

- 4 days there and then head to Nuremburg for a World Cup match. Our friends have already booked hotels rooms for us in Nuremburg, but we on't have accomodations in Munich. Staying near the World Cup venue in Munich would be great and/or the train station would be convienent. Not sure we want to spend $1000/night, but something in the $200 - $300 would be great. We're not too picking on style...definitely more interested in location and atmosphere. |
