are down since yesterday with the error message:

Dear Thorn Tree user,

We're sorry to let you know we've found it necessary to temporarily
close the Thorn Tree section of Lonelyplanet.com as it has come to our
attention that a number of posts do not conform to the standards of the
Lonely Planet website. As soon as we have completed the necessary
editorial and technical updates we will let you know but in the meantime
we are very grateful for your understanding and patience.

What's going on?

It seems that the home page www.lonelyplanet.com was also down on
Saturday but now it's up.

"...a number of posts do not conform to the standards of the Lonely
Planet website."

Any reason why they would put their main (money maker) page off-line
before Christma$ just to delete some posts in the forums which they do
everyday?

Perhaps they crashed or were hacked and are trying to keep it low key?
Regards, Walter

Not sure, but the LP forums are quite active and there is almost no talk
about politics or other nonsense.

what's happened here is this fruitcake american who insists on cross posting
his political agenda stuff which is all but flooding the NG.
These people actually destroy good things as others just stay away from the
rubbish...

Of course, he/she/it wouldn't be such a problem, if people didn't insist
on replying to him.
