4 Dead In Ohio
 

On April 30th, President Nixon announced on national television that a
massive American-South Vietnamese troop offensive into Cambodia was
in progress.

A spontaneous anti-war rally began in the street. On 2May the Mayor
declared an emergency curfew and confined all students to campus
grounds. The students retreated to the Commons to find the ROTC
building smoldering at both ends.

3 May found the National Guard on campus if full combat gear with gas
masks. Pres. Nixon had the FBI and the CIA involved with undercover
agents.

On 4May, the NG were ordered to disperse a peaceful anti-war rally and
after doing so, they eventually retreated to the top of a hill.

The students assumed the confrontation was over. Many students began
to walk to their next classes. As the guard reached the crest of the
Blanket Hill, near the Pagoda of Taylor Hall, about a dozen members
of Troop G Ohio NG simultaneously turned around 180 degrees, aimed
and fired their weapons into the crowd as they were ordered verbally
to do. A total of 67 shots were fired in 13 seconds.

William Schroeder.

Nine injured.
