Time to say goodbye!
"The Bill Mattocks" wrote in message om... Folks: For some years, I've enjoyed being an occasional participant on rec.travel.air, and posting trip reports and stories that I hope you found amusing or entertaining - it sure helped me deal with the stress of being a road warrior, on the road non-stop to the tune of 100,000+ miles per year. I've posted somewhat less in the last year or so, as I've spent even less time at home or being able to relax with my laptop while on the road, and of course as many have noticed, the tenor of r.t.a. has changed - there are more trolls, more anger, less humor. Many of the other 'regulars' have gone away due to this. I didn't stop reading r.t.a., but I held off jumping into debates that I normally would have greatly enjoyed skirmishing in. I've recently reached the place where it was time to make a change. The continued stresses of air travel in a post-9/11 world, continued and advancing intrusions into my (our) personal privacy, and the general business climate (more travel, spend less money doing it, etc) have combined to make me finally decide that its time to hang up my rubber chicken and move on. I've resigned my position with the firm I worked for, and am no longer seeking employment as a traveling consultant/road warrior. I'm looking for the daily nine-to-five gig instead, something that leaves me home in the evenings and on weekends. I have no doubt that I'll miss the travel, as I'll miss posting on r.t.a. But the one thing that is constant is change. Who knows what life holds? Perhaps in time I'll find myself on the road again. But for now, that part of my life is over, and so to, my semi-regular posts on r.t.a. I wish you all safe travels, good restaurants, working rental cars, no missed connections, non-metallic shoes, and TSA agents on Prozac. Lots of it. Thanks for putting up with my rants, nonsense, diatribes, and ill-humour over the past six or seven years! Best Regards, Bill Mattocks Yah, I have to say its time to say goodbye for good. The boards were lots of fun for lots of years - since I first came on back in about 1995. However, I've checked in for the first time in a couple months and have found the board to be more of a cross-post spam paradise mixed in with totally inane character attacks and a couple informative threads. Unlike Bill though, my travels are on the up with substantial international travel (mostly Asia). Anyhow, after all the years with Ellen, Sheryl, Tadjr, Bill Mattocks, Greg, Mihir Shah, Malcolm Wier, Miguel Cruz, Mike Cordelli, DALing, and, yes, JF, its time to bid farewell. I've found better experiences on www.usaviation.com/forum which are moderated and are often better controlled than the bedlam which can take place here. So, for now, so long, and happy flying. Anyhow, after all the years with Ellen, Sheryl, Tadjr, Bill Mattocks, Greg, Mihir Shah, Malcolm Wier, Miguel Cruz, Mike Cordelli, DALing, and, yes, JF, its time to bid farewell. *Sigh*. Those names bring back some memories or two. I've often wondered in the past few years, since she vanished, if Ellen has ever used her untouched and brand new kitchen and appliances as yet.? :-) I'd like to think she still dines out every night in PHL. (For that matter, does she fly at all anymore now it's almost impossible to smoke???!!!! LOL.) Did Tadjr ever survive all the cuts at US? Is GateA1 still holding court with his beloved CO in CLE ?? Does JF still have problems with his bike box ?? Malc still haunts alt.travel.uk.air on the odd occasion. Craig Welch's biting & witty one liner retorts are also sorely missed. Helen Rose, the bloke from Boeing Engineering/Technical, Gord Beaman, Erik "the Red" G3 [ :-) !!] - the list goes on. A true shame the characters and fun that used to be R.T.A. have vanished and keep vanishing. Wasn't life much simpler when the only post on the board that caused universal angst was the infamous "How much is gas in your area?" thread. LOL. These days, take your pick on dud threads. I even miss the Sheryl & Ellen stoushes - the thrust and parry, the cut throat exchanges both ladies parried with such finesse. :-) And so, yet again, a water cannon salute as another pulls away from the R.T.A. terminal for the last time and retires. Blue Skies to you ITRADE & Cheers. |
