TRAVELOCITY NIGHTMARE

Sorry to be so blunt, but this outfit is a bunch of crooks.

My hotel reservation was never confirmed.
I even called the hotel and there was no record of any reservation.
I was unable to find any record of my reservation on the Travelocity website.

Several frustrating calls and endless on-hold minutes later, I was informed
that the reservation was made " on line" , so it couldn't be cancelled.

I am having to do a credit card dispute.

For what it's worth, the staff at Travelocity is a bunch of raving assholes.

BEWARE OF ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS OUTFIT.

That's odd, I've dealt with them for years and had several occasions to
call them (changing flights and the like) and never once had a problem
such as you describe. All of my reservations always have been available
on-line and cancellable as well (when the type of reservation permits
this of course).

You probably paid for the hotel stay through Hotels.com (or another pre-paid
hotel deal from somewhere else) and it was not just a reservation.
If you read the terms and conditions of the low cost Hotels.com hotel deals,
you pay upfront and you cannot get all of your money back.

I've been very happy with Hotels.com and their services over the years, but
you have to read the fine print and know what you are buying.

I think that for hotels travel agencies are still better than the Internet.

They have better deals and such things happen less often when you have
someone to yell at in front of you.

A friend of mine had a similar nightmare with Expedia. He had reserved
and hotel in New York and paid it in advance with Credit Card trough the
Internet.

Unfortunately, on the day he was supposed to fly from Rome, there was
the blackout in New York, so all flight were switched to the next day.

He called Expedia to tell them that he would not be able to be in NY,
but their call center told him to send an email, which he could not do
being away from his Computer. He asked them the phone number of the
Hotel, but they would not give him.

Well when he finally got to New York, then room he had paid for a week
had been sold to someone else and no money was ever given back to him as
refund.

That depends. For some travel products, particularly cruises and escorted
tours, a travel agent can be invaluable. Also, say if you are booking a
complicated/expensive itinerary they can be a big help...

For straight flights or hotel reservations, though, the internet is a pretty
valuable resource, it gives you the consumer a lot of power and a lot of
choices...

Try yelling at a travel agent and see if they'll continue to cultivate your
business :-)

Huh? It's easy enough to find a hotel's phone number, it's a no - brainer.
And in such cases it behooves one to always, ALWAYS call the hotel to
discuss the situation - in fact when booking a travel service via *any*
method, ALWAYS call the carrier, hotel, or tour operator to confirm you
reservation status beforehand, whether there is a problem or not (I always
double - check to just be sure...) Calling Expedia is really not going to
help in a delay situation...

The above is just basic horse sense, if everyone followed it there would be
a lot fewer bad situations for travellers...

Did he even try to adjuticate the matter? If Expedia wouldn't help, he can
always contest the charge with his credit card company...they are required
to investigate such matters if a written query is made.

My problems with Travelocity and the like isn't quite the same as yours.
I am generally disappointed with their so called good deals and do much
better elsewhere. I am retired and do spend quite a bit of time on the
telephone and internet booking my own trip, which is often a bit
complicated and I cant really expect a travel agent to put in the time I
am willing to invest especially when you consider the meager commissions
they are now earning.

but the few times I have used them they did give me what they had
promised.

I have had issues with consolidators, which through complaining to and
refusing to pay my American Express bill resovled nicely...
