They've historically had the best accident record, if I recall correctly.

These days, you never know, however. If there weren't any government
regulations forcing airlines to do maintenance and observe safety issues,
aircraft would be raining out of the sky.

Were they unsafe to fly in bankrupcy?
How many accidents did they have in bankrupcy?

As my memory goes, I don't recall one.
My buddy, Dustin, recommends you fly QANTAS.
So, of course, he doens't fly much... but.... his dad said he's a good
driver.

Sure. Why not? I flew on Delta a week ago and I am still alive.

..... but you didn't ride a motorcycle to the airport, right.
That would be like inviting death ............. Borat Pause.... NOT!

Here in rec.travel.air, Mxsmanic spake unto us, saying:

Strangely enough, some of the labor unions actually help to enforce
safety on aircraft as well.

Most flight crews aren't going to be willing to fly on something which
is unsafe, for example, since their butt is on the line, and a pilot's
union gives them the power to say "I won't fly unless this is fixed" as
a group even if management wants them to cut corners.

I was never in a union when I worked for the airlines (programmers are
not unionized -- if they were, I'd still be there), but I know enough
people who were and who took their jobs seriously to believe that the
major airlines would be relatively safe even without the morass of
federal regs they have to comply with.

I flew Delta a few days ago, and was surprised at how much better they were.
It was the day their emergence from bankruptcy was front page news, and I
must say it was like a different airline.

What Co wants to see a major accident..? It would be suicide
from a business point of view.

Ryanair pilots were apparently recently in trouble with management,
apparently they were in too much of a hurry to land he damn things
and meet deadlines.

Not that I would be complacent, in any organisation it is still
possible for management to pass the buck, giving the appearance
of enforcing standards is not always the same as actually
doing it.

Yes, but we will always need some oversight..

I was wondering if this was one of the unions that was more intent on
keeping an employee, no matter how inept they are.
