"Generic" Star Alliance airplanes?

I have seen a few airplanes that were painted white with "Star Alliance"
on the fuselage and the Star Alliance logo on the tail. There was no
other airline identification painted on the airplanes. Who actually
operates these airplanes?

The one I saw belonged to United.

If you look closely at the livery, you will see the actual operator listed.
IIRC, each Star Alliance operator has one plane painted this way.

I saw a few of these at CPH and it took quite a few seconds for me
to scan the entire plane to see that a small SAS (or Scandinavian, I
cannot remember which was there) designation was present as well.

Here's one of these I photographed at AMS three years ago:

I've seen a number of these; UAL, USA, SIN, DLH, LOT, Varig,
ANZ, ACA.. they've all flown one Star Alliance plane or another to
various places I've been. You'll see tons of pics for these at
airliners.net. Search for Star Alliance, and you'll see them.

The owner is the first livery towards the front of each aircraft.

The new livery for the Star Alliance places is what is seen in the picture,
minus all the logos. Airline the plane belongs to is in their "font and
color" below the windows and aft of the front doors.

I seem to recall part of the "deal" with the SA is that the member has to
paint 2% of their livery in SA colors. I've seen it in US "colors" on a
319, 320, 321 and 757. Have seen pictures of the US Express skidoo in SA
colors. Haven't seen a 737 yet, though.

You probably aren't going to see a 737 in Star Alliance livery
from USA. So far, they have it in their B752s, A319s, and possibly a
762.

As for seeing a SA livery on a 737, here you go.

Finally, LOT's E170. http://www.airliners.net/open.file/546938/L/
