Engine sucks in bird during take off

Don't think the bird flew into the engine, me thinks the engine sucked
it in ;-) A goose I assume, no stories mention the species although
I assume not too much of said creature was left. Since the crew
thought it was a blown tire the engine must have continued operating
with no problems and they wouldn't have chosen to burn off fuel before
landing?

Snip:
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A bird flew into an engine on a Delta Air Lines
flight during takeoff tonight, forcing the pilot to make an emergency
landing with 140 passengers onboard.

There were no reports of injuries.

Delta spokeswoman Ashley Black says the MD-88 jet took off from Port
Columbus International Airport about 5:15 p.m. for Atlanta.

It circled the Columbus area for about 90 minutes to burn fuel before
landing about 6:40 p.m.

Black said the crew initially thought the problem was a blown tire.
