Wed 27/02/08 - Contractors working for the Brussels public transport company MIVB completed work on the missing metro link between Delacroix Station in Anderlecht and West Station in Saint-Jans Molenbeek. The completion of the work means that the centre of Brussels is now completely encircled by the metro. (Belga) Furthermore, the extension of line 2 and its merger with line 1 at West Station means that the MIVB will be able to offer a more direct underground service between Brussels South railway station, the national stadium and the Heizel Exhibition Centre. Despite the completion of the new stretch of track, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done before big changes are made to the capital's metro network in a year's times. The restructuring and the purchase of new rolling stock will increase capacity on the Brussels metro by 40%. Further work will be carried out at West Station to turn it into an intermodal public transport facility. |
