Honeymoon in the Masai Mara

Dear all,

we have finally chosen our destination for our honeymoon.

This will be two weeks in the Masai Mara reserve shared between two
locations : Governor's in the north west and Cottars 1920 in the south
east near the border with the Serengeti.

We have one more question to submit to your experience in this place.

Between Governor's Camp and Little Governor's, what would be your
favorite choice and why ?

Thanks for your kind advice.

Best regards.

A long time in the Mara, I found three nights was long enough, there are
so many other places to visit! A week at Hemingways in Watamu would
add a taste of luxury with roses on your pillow, gourmet food and
comfortable rooms, as well as the Indian ocean outside your window!

Fred,

I think this is an excellent choice, and you will certainly
enjoy it, barring any catastrophic event.

I would agree with Pat though that it may be a good idea to
split the two weeks among two different nature reserves, perhaps
even visit a third one briefly along the way.

Samburu comes to mind for a first trip, perhaps 5 or 6 days in
one of the suitable lodges like the stylish Larsen's or
Intrepids. Then spend the rest of the time in the two different
places in Masai Mara.

On the other hand, if you have a good idea of what you're doing,
your plan is certainly not bad. I could spend two weeks in Masai
Mara without getting bored.

I'll have to leave this question to others, don't know these
lodges very well. The're all good though, so you can't really go
wrong.

Fred,
I`d agree with Hans Georg on Samburu, next time we go to Kenya Samburu
would be on my list. I know that Hans Georg is not a "coast man"
unlike my husband, he said one day "when you`ve seen one elephant
you`ve seen them all!" Lamu is Hans Georg`s coastal exception. I love
wild life and would never tire of seeing elephants by the way. I thought
Zanzibar was a great experience and something different. I mentioned
Hemingways as we`ve stayed there more than once and the service is
excellent and would be a good honeymoon choice for a few days. If you
have the time you could combine the two if you want to.

A week in Greece will also do that, except the 'ocean' would be another
sea. I never understand why people travel all the way to east africa,
just to lie on the beach most of the time. But I guess that's just me. I
would spend that week in the Mara and still regret it's so short.

Honeymoon in the Masai Mara

Dear all,

thank you for your messages.

Just two things to clarify our choice.

We already know a bit of Kenya cause we have made several Safari
during which we went to Mara, Samburu, Meru, Shaba, Navaisha, Nakuru,
Baringo, Bogoria.

The second thing is that for or honey moon we wanted to stay in a
single place (no circuit).

Best regards

Johan,
I`m not lying on the beach most of the time, we know a lot of people in
Malindi and there are other things to do. We have lived in Kenya for
many years, have visited many places and know many people, it can be
very relaxing at the coast for a few days. I have no interest in going
to Greece!

Fred,
We haven`t stayed in Governors but have heard that Little Governors is
smaller and more intimate than the original governors. It might be more
special for a honeymoon.
