UK Mobile phones in Aus

Hello
We have a Nokia 3330 which we want to take on holiday from the
UK to Australia next week....mainly to keep in touch with friends we are
travelling with and then splitting up for a while. Will this phone work
over there? Also...when we are dialling our friends number, do we have to
use the Australian country code or can we just dial the normal number?

Depends whether your phone is locked to a particular network. Check with
your service provider. If you're using global roaming, you'll pay through
the nose for both inward and outward calls. If your phone is not locked,
you'd be best buying a prepaid simcard from one of the major operators,
which will give you a dedicated Australian mobile number, you can receive
calls free of charge (some charge a small fee for retrieving messages), and
pay a more economical rate.

At the moment you can buy a really cheap Motorola package C115 from Vodafone
for $39.95, including prepaid calls to the value of $30. It's unlocked, so
you can use it on any network.
