House hunters' bargain hot spot expands. Eleven-and-a-half kilometres
from the CBD is proving to be the right distance for value seeking
home buyers, according to a report that lists the 24 most attractive
suburbs in Australia for investment opportunitie. The Melbourne
suburbs of Chadstone, Brunswick and Flemington made the list, compiled
by St George Bank, because they offered the best mix of location,
amenities and demographic mix for investors.

Victoria overtakes Queensland as Aussies' destination of choice.
Victoria has edged ahead of Queensland for the first time as a
destination for Australians on interstate trips, new figures show.
Data released by Tourism Research Australia shows the southern state
recorded 5.4 million interstate visitors on overnight trips in the
year ended in June 2009.

Cairns ‘great up top’ message to get a push at WYSTC. The ‘Cairns –
great up top…fun Down Under’ campaign will make its international
debut at the World Youth and Student Travel Conference (WYSTC) in
Manchester in two weeks time. Brett Claxton, Backpacking Queensland

Try this new citizenship test. So the Don's out. The new citizenship
test will no longer ask people to learn the cricketer's test average
or about Walter Lindrum's billiards prowess. According to the
Minister for Immigration, Chris Evans, the aim is to include people,
not block them out in an "Australiana Quiz".

Population to now hit 35 million by 2049. AUSTRALIA'S population will
hit 35 million in 40 years - seven million more than had been expected
- as a rising birthrate and rapid migration almost double the rate of
population growth. The larger population will be younger, on average,

College's collapse leaves 61 stranded. ANOTHER private training
college has collapsed, leaving scores of Australian students in limbo
and raising fears that problems in international education have spread
to colleges that teach local students. The College of Creative Arts
and Technology was closed on September 2 after Victoria's education
regulator learnt it was insolvent. Education authorities are
scrambling to place 61 students in new courses.
