Saudi Arabia opens its doors to tourists

If expensive energy and global warming reshape the topology of the
wealthy nations, how many members of the populations of those countries
will be able to continue our energy-intensive pursuits?

- Man is a very industrious creature and suitable new sources of energy will
be found...the Chicken Littles currently braying about the End Of
Civilisation As We Know It were the same ones back in the 19th century
predicting the imminent end of civilisation because wood for fuel was being
rapidly depleted. Their concerns were rendered moot by the discovery of new
energy sources...

- Why is "global warming" necessarily a bad thing...???

Well the locals have money. A lot of them have cushy govt. jobs.

You hear about young men with no jobs racing expensive cars. There are
suppose to be a lot of malls.

So they must have great attitudes towards visitors.

The Saudis are rather like the Beverly Hillbillies -- all cash, all flash,
no class.

Perhaps you have this meaningless babble in groups like rec.travel.america
and so worth. The audience - I am sure about this - would be more adaptive.

You're more fun when you're sober :-)

Is the snow starting to melt in Lapland yet...???

Or you could visit Mecca during the Haj and watch the crowds stampede

Infidels aren't allowed to witness the Haj. Especially those snarking

I think we should drop a big fat nuclear bomb on Mecca druing the Haj...

Start with kilo ton gRunge as a warning of just how nasty the USA can
be.

No need for French nuclear weapons -- gRunge is enough of a "force de
frappe"...

Saudi Arabia hopes to attract a million visitors a year with the help
of a new tourism visa.

Eighteen approved tour operators in the kingdom have begun offering
visa services as part of a series of tourism initiatives announced last
week at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The Saudi government is
also to begin issuing permits for tour guides from next month.

I bet that people will be lining up to go to a country that has previously barred tourists and keeps foreign workers in housing
compounds partly for their own safety and partly to stop them from polluting Saudis with their infidel beliefs. I can't myself
wasting my time and money to go a land of sand, sun and Islamic extremists.

Prejudices are like rude bits; everyone has them, but it isn't
considered polite to wave them around in public.

If you really want to see prejudice, go to Saudi Arabia.

I wonder how many are Islamic extremists, and I wonder how many of them
resort to violence.
Do you have some figures ?

It's about time they invited tourists to propagate their infidel
beliefs.

Isn't it interesting that the countries with the largest oil reserves
are the ones that are planning for a future without oil, while the rest
of the world blunders onwards as if there were tomorrow.

There is oil outside the countries with the largest reserves, so oil
will still exist in the world even after it can no longer be found in
those countries. That's why oil-producing companies have a special
interest in planning for a future without oil.

The religion and the societies that embrace it are younger. They will
learn, in time.
