what to do when ...

a passenger sitting next to you is nervously pushing a button inside his
coat pocket or is trying to light the soul of his shoe on fire in an
apparent attempt to blow the aircraft to pieces ... i mean is it acceptable
etiquette to employ a karate chop to the neck or a roundhouse kick to the
head ... please advise?!

No - just sit there and do nothing to ensure that you're not sued
posthumously for assault

I wouldn't worry about a shoe's soul......now if someone is messing with its
SOLE that might be a different story....

I was on the first America-bound UA flight out of Melbourne after 9/11/01
(or 11/9/01 if you insist)....the pilot in command (who made a point of
coming through the cabin to talk to the pax, who naturally were mostly
American) had been hired by the PIC of the plane that crashed in
Pennsylvania. He didn't quite go this far, but one of his colleagues
apparently had some thoughts on this topic:

Still insistent on literate net-users, Raffi? I gave up on that years ago.

I think you should run a rubber hose from the exhaust pipe of your car
into the inside of your car, start the engine and then sit there and
suck in the fumes.
