No. 15 minutes on NJ Transit to Penn Station if they want to go
uptown unless they can't afford the $7 off peak round trip. If they
are going to make at least five round trips in a calendar week, they
could buy a weekly ticket for roughly the same amount of money, and
then they could go back and forth as much as they want for a flat price.

Dear Michael, is there any weekly NYC MTA subway ticket, or tourist
package type stuff?

Here, again is the MTA Metrocard page about the unlimited cards:

http://www.mta.info/metrocard/mcgtreng.htm#unlimited

Each member of your party must have their own card. The daily ($8.25)
is good until 3:00am the following day. The weekly ($27) is good until
midnight seven days after first use.

If you expect to ride more than five trips a day for three days, you'll
be ahead with the weekly card.
