A British national who rented a Jetski from a Pattaya Beach operator
has been attacked and severely beaten following an argument over the
victim having allegedly damaged the Jetski he had rented.
Pattaya, the 19th of February 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 8:00pm on
Friday, police Lieutenant Colonel Supphachai Puikumkaew (Pattaya
Police Investigator) was confronted by Mr. David John Marshall [62], a
British national. Mr. Marshall presented himself to Pattaya Police,
suffering from a severely swollen face, black eye and broken tooth. He
reported to police that he had been bashed by a group of Thai men
after hiring a Jetski from a Pattaya Beach operator close to Soi 13 on
Pattaya Beach Road.
Mr. Marshall explained that he was staying, with a group of friends,
at the Heaven Hotel in Soi 13, Pattaya Beach Road. Before the attack
occurred, Mr. Marshall and his 3 friends had been approached by a
group of Thai men who offered them to rent some jetski’s at a cost of
1,400 baht per person for 1 hour. Agreeing and paying the money the
group then rode the jetski’s around in Pattaya Bay for approximately 1
hour before returning to the beach.
It is alleged that once the group had returned the jetski’s the
operators inspected the vehicles, before explaining that Mr. Marshall
will have to pay for damages done to the bottom of the Jetski he was
riding. Mr. Marshall claims, that he calmly tried to explain to the
operator that he was not responsible for any damage evident on the
Jetski, as he had not been involved in an accident or hit anything in
the water. He subsequently refused to pay the man any money for the
damages.
The argument became very heated, ending with the three Thai Jetski
operators attacking Mr. Marshall before another two Thai men walking
past the incident also joined in on the attack. Mr. Marshall was able
to escape the onslaught, but not before being hit several times in the
face causing him numerous injuries.
Officers obtained Mr. Marshall’s statement before sending him to the
Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment. An investigation will
commence in an attempt to apprehend the 5 offenders.
Note: The Pattaya Daily News team will investigate this incident
further in an attempt to uncover the whole story, which in our
opinion, at present appears rather vague.
