Default Shimba Hills National Park

Thanks Jacques - that's really useful info.

I have three days there in 10 days time, looking to do some walking as well
as 'safari bus' so will hopefully get to see most things
Interesting about the sanctuary next door as well - was there an additional
entrance fee?

Also, what was the weather like - I had heard of thunderstorms recently?

Just back from Kenya and Shimba Hills .
As the park is mainly forest, game is not easy to see but sure you can see
Sable antilopes ,
girafe , buffalo and elephants .
We saw also the beautiful Ross turaco ( blue and red ) and other birds .
There were 800 elephants in Shimba Hills and KWS decided to translocate

400
to Tsavo .
Up to now, they have translocated 150 and stopped because the drought in
Tsavo and the
elephants stress by helicopter's noise .
Don't miss to go to the Elephant Sanctuary next the
park . It's private but sometimes you can see a lot
( there is a corridor with Shimba ) .
About the lodge, it's not a luxury one but very nice and clean .It's no

more
operated by Block Hotel
( exploded in 2002 for bankrupt ) but by
Aberdaresafari . Now they operate Outspan and Treetops + Shimba Hills .

Hi all

I'm hoping to sneak back to Kenya next month for a week (annual Africa
'fix'
required..)
Probably going back to Diani for some R&R, and hoping to go to the

Shimba
Hills park up the road.

Has anyone got any useful info or experiences of this park?
In particular, what's the best way to arrange a couple of days there?

I know all (?) the hotels on the beach will arrange trips, but I'm sure

I
can do better booking ahead.
Is it better to stay in the lodge, or camping?
Any tips?

Thanks for any info.
