Having looked through various postings in this thread, it is obvious that
there's a wide range of views on what constitutes an hotel worthy of
recommendation.
Also on what a tourist/visitor wants.

Perhaps an idea would be to adopt an 'initial response' strategy for future
enquiries? If the poster doesn't explain the standard / price range /
facilities, etc. in the initial enquiry, someone replies asking for
clarification, then everyone sits back and waits . . . .

For myself, when I visit, I just want somewhere clean, with a comfortable
bed, a good shower, and nice food.
So I'm quite happy to stay out of the centre.
On the last trip it was in Ramkamhaeng.
The hotel was inexpensive (a 'superior' room with 2 double beds, a/c, cable
tv, big fridge, breakfast included - 380 B per night). It was very clean,
the food was excellent, and the staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful.
There were lots of food outlets nearby, a good selection of shops, and a
choice of bus services into town (or the klohng 'taxi' for 13 B would get
me 5 minutes walk from Siam Square).
And it obviously wasn't an area too much used by Europeans - I had stares
galore for the first couple of days, but then I noticed that these were
replaced by smiles and greetings as my face became recognised.
The only drawback was the lack of a bar, but with a 'Big C' just across the
road, that wasn't a problem.


I guess some people want to go and exploit the price differences so that
they can stay in a standard of hotel they couldn't afford anywhere else, but
we ought to find out before the arguments start between the rest of us . . .
