Default The DEMISE of CD & all hard media!

Folks, it looks very much like this is the onset of the DEMISE of all CD
& similar hard media for music.

Not one but two of the 3 independent music stores in this larger middle
size market (Capital District, NY) have closed their doors within months
of each other.

They both cite lack of traffic and that their customer base is obtaining
"music" from sources other than record stores.

This is especially true as the demographic gets *younger*.

Can you say "IPOD"?

It will be a few years, but it's over, done and settled.
From here on it's soon gonna be download or nothing. :-(

The one thing that will likely survive is the used/collector's shops
and many of them keep a nice stock of retail inventory. Sure plenty of
used and collectable stuff is sold online but IME the savvy dealers are
working that while maintaning a walk in store. Buying used is still one
thing that is better done in person.

I'm not so sure the used places will last. On CDNOW/Amazon I can listen
to a CD as see used versions available. One then just sticks these in
the cart and watches the lowest price indication for that item drop
until it hits your threshold. No reason to ever get in the car.
