As far as hotels go, I'd definitely recommend the Lord Elgin Hotel,www.lordelgin.ca My parents have always stayed there during their
annual visits toOttawaand swear by it. I was just there this past
summer and it's a great hotel in a very central location.
Things to do: tour the Parliament buildings, sound and light show
(nightly on the Pariament grounds), the art museum, Bayward market area,
Royal Canadian Mint, Sparks Street pedestrian mall, see the Changing of
the Guard, boat tour of the Ottowa River, Gatineau Park across the river
in Quebec, Canadian Museum of Civilization, Orchestra in the arts center
on Lord Elgin street.
Hope that helps,

Looks like a nice hotel!

I think Jim R has covered some to the main tourist points. The Lord
Elgin is a good choise .

I'd also suggest considering the Four Points Sheridan (sp) on Laurier
Steet in Gatineau (HULL). It is directly across the Ottawa River from
the Parliament Buildings and while not 'quite, as close to some of
them as the Lord Elgin, it is across the street, literally, from the
Museaum of Civilisation. Most of Jim's other attractions are about a
20 minute walk or 5 minutes by handy city bus. The Lord Elgin is
closer to the Parliament Buildings but about the same distance to the
Art Gallery.

If you're in the downtown core it is not worth the parking hassles to
drive. Walking and very frequent city buses are more convenient. On
the other hand you need to drive or have a bicycle to see Gatineau
Park. If you visit the Park be sure to go to Champlain Lookout.
