Default Ins and Outs of renting a car on St Martin

Hi:

My wife and I will be staying at Le Meridien L'Habitation in March.
Many suggest renting a car due to the relative remoteness of the
resort.

Do I rent once I get there? Should I arrange ahead of time through

a
travel agent? What if I won't need the car for the whole time?

Will
availability be an issue? Do you buy insurance or is it figured

into
the cost?

Jon--

There was an informative thread here a very short time ago with a
number of posts on this topic--some directly related to the questions
you're asking. Sorry about the size of the link but I picked it up
here (if it works). It also may still be on your newsreader.

Many of the answers to your questions come under the heading of
personal preference IMO. Plenty of cars usually are available at the
agencies at the airport, but some people prefer to reserve ahead.
IMO, you get a better price by waiting 'till you're there, but that
may not matter. Enjoy the Meridien--but you do need a vehicle if you
intend to go out and about. And check the brakes--the hills back and
forth are pretty steep!
