There are companies called Dal Myles, and Mount'n Beach who offer 4WD trips
into the Blue Mountains - mostly just 1 day. However there also used to be
a company called Eco Escapes that I think operated from Katoomba & went down
the Cox's river and Jenolan Caves area - again prob mostly 1 day stuff.
There are not many places even in the BMtns where 4WD is essential. With a
rental car you could go to Euroka Clearing to see parrots & eastern grey
kangaroos. If you wanted to camp at Boyd River (in Kanangra Boyd NP), about
3 hr from Sydney, you would see possums, sugar gliders & kangaroos in the
evening. Otherwise, as most wildlife is fairly nocturnal, spotting stuff is
a matter of luck.
