I got my tickets this morning on South African Air for $890 each. The
deal? was buy one get one free. I think if I had started earlier, I
could have bagged lower tickets on Sky Auction for about $650.

So four big questions to start with:

Out of a 32 day trip, is a week in a condo in Johannesburg way too
much?

Where should I stay on Johannesburg - Downtown, Sandton or else where?
