Brainwashed by religious education. Don't know what it is about
Islam that makes it more effective than other religions but they
certainly make it stick.

The religion and the societies that embrace it are younger. They will
learn, in time.

that doesn't apply to those westerners who convert. Like my
shoebomber namesake.
