korea was a civil war... the UN came in with hired troops.
vietnam likewise a civil war.
persian gulf... iraq vs kuwait.. the kuwaities hired mercenary troops
persian gulf II... minor police action.... not a war at all.

World Wars I and II... local disputes... the US showed up in a
mercenary/police role to help keep shipping flowing.
