Default Olympic flights

A flight between Buenos Aires and Havana is NOT going to
get diverted to the United States. Miami, the only airport
in southern Florida where a 747, DC10, or A340 can
land, is about 230 miles beyond Havana, while Varadero,
where those aircraft can land, is only 90 miles away.to
the east. If a flight gets diverted, it would obviously
go to th neastest alternate, that, being in Varadero.

Can you explain why you believe PBI and FLL aren't able to land a 747?

What about flights to Europe? From Cuba, doesn't Great Circle take them
closer to the US coastline than any other land mass for HOURS after take
off? What are they going to do if there is a problem, head back to Cuba?
