Default American Air AAdavantage E-shopping Warning

rant on
Last December my wife received the notice from American Air that all 23,000
frequent flyer miles would expire soon unless she made some kind of transaction
that would "save" her miles. Following the instructions on the notice she used
the AAdvantage E-shopping web site, after following the appropriate links from
the American Air web site, to buy a book online so that her existing frequent flyer
miles would be preserved. After noticing the appropriate miles were not posted
to her FF account, she contacted AAdvantage. They told her there was nothing
they could do and that the problem had to be resolved by their E-shopping parter.
So my wife sent off mail to the E-shopping partner, and finally they got back to her
saying essentially that they were not going to credit her any miles because she must
have done something wrong along the way, eventhough my wife can prove she
bought the merchandise through the shopping web site.

The irony of this was that she flew on AA a month later adding more than 2,000
miles to her account, which would have given her the 25,000 miles needed for
the free ticket.
