Default filtering spam cross-posts

Mozilla Thunderbird allows you to define message filters to sort out
uninteresting messages. The standard properties that can be filtered are
things like "Subject" or "From", but spammers often use frequently
changing mail identities to defeat such filters.
A less obvious feature is that you can customize the properties to
want to filter on. In the Tools - Message filters box, click "New",
then in the left-hand drop-down box, scroll down to "Customize..".
You can put in the name of any message property that is used in the
message header, for example "Newsgroups". So, that means you can filter
on the contents of the Newsgroups list! If for example you are (not)
especially interested in messages x-posted to
alt.activism.death-penalty, set up a filter with "Newsgroups" "Contains"
"death-penalty".
Give the filter a name, set the actions and bingo.

Wishing you all a prosperous and a spam-free 2013.

I'm SO glad I figured this out - I've lost count of how much junk wound
up in the killfile bin in one week, must be nearly 100 messages.
