I worked in the pharmaceutical industry. The US Government has a Law that
allows reduced corporate taxes if product was manufactured in Ireland
instead of the US. The goal was to put jobs in Ireland instead of in the
US. (Why? I don't know.) And before Ireland, it was for manufacturing in
Puerto Rico. I even knew the name of the US law for manufacturing in Puerto
Rico instead of in the US. It was called 936(h). At least I knew why that
one was put in place. Nixon (or somebody back then) wanted to keep the
communists out of Puerto Rico by creating jobs there.

These laws have been in place under BOTH Democrat regimes and Republican
regimes. They encourage(d) creating jobs outside the US instead of inside
the US.

Companies like Nike don't make anything in the US that I know of. So how
many jobs have they created in the US? Yet another company like New Balance
can make similar sneakers in the US and do just fine. So it's not just
labor rates. More likely it was "sweetheart deals" with overseas countries.

Have you guys been wondering where the jobs went?

Asia took many of the jobs. China. Korea. Japan. Toyota. Honda.
Nissan. Panasonic. Samsung. Sony. Clothes. Toys... the list goes on and
on...

But now that the jobs are gone, and people have no money, nobody's buying
stuff. So both sides got screwed in the end.

My son spent a semester in Berlin during his undergrad at NYU. In a
European Economics class there, he said the Germans were bemoaning that they
ever got involved in the Euro. It's making their costs too high... and they
want to be an "EXPORT ECONOMY". They want to sell BMW's and Mercedes to
everyone else..

Well everyone wants to be an export economy. Germany. Japan. China.
Korea. But to have an export economy, SOMEBODY has to be the import
economy. And if nobody in that import economy is working (because all the
jobs have gone to the export economies) then nobody can afford all the stuff
the export economies are making.

DUH!!!

It's not politics. It's not business. Business can make too easily make
stuff in China... which creates no jobs..

It's JOBS in the USA. Plain and simple. And good paying jobs with
benefits... not like at Wal Mart.
