It was a series of "ideals", not "real estate", that led to our last US
"Civil War". Though in actuality, the term "Civil War" is in appropriate
to describe the afore mentioned conflict. It was a war between two
seperate nations, with each having their own constitution, economy, money,
foreign policy, and standing army. A true civil war is when on segment of
the population rises up against another segment of the poulation, or when
loosly organized political factions control territory claimed by the
state. South Carolina seceeded from the Union using the same principles
laid down in the Declaration of Independence that were used by the
Thirteen Colonies to seceed from the British Empire.
