Southwest Unveils Proposal For New Terminal At Boeing Field
July 21, 2005

By KOMO Staff & News Services

SEATTLE - Southwest Airlines on Thursday proposed building its own
$130 million terminal at Boeing Field in Seattle so it can transfer
operations from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The Dallas-based airline would own the eight-gate terminal at Boeing
Field, officially known as King County Airport. The airport is closer
than Sea-Tac to downtown Seattle and now serves private planes,
corporate jets, charters and Boeing Co. planes being prepared for
delivery.

In the proposal presented to King County, Southwest said it can't
expand at Sea-Tac.

Southwest would own the new terminal but would ask the county to pay
for road improvements and other infrastructure.

Southwest said it hopes to start operating at Boeing Field in 2009.

Alaska Air Requests Access Too

Also Thursday, Alaska and Horizon airlines asked King County for equal
access to Boeing Field if Southwest Airlines moves operations there
from Sea-Tac Airport.

Alaska says it has no choice but to match its competitor or it would
be at a competitive disadvantage.

Alaska and Horizon planes could account for as many as 100 departures
a day from Boeing Field. They now have 281 departures, combined, from
Sea-Tac where they account for about half of the airport's traffic.

Moving Alaska and Horizon flights to Boeing Field would require a
significant King County investment in facilities, they said.
