Default Wheel Chairs

Isn't it amazing that many of the people who require wheel chairs to
board and disembark cruise ships, never use them on the cruise.

This particularly noticed with groups that accompany the designated
wheel chair passenger person at the head of the line.

Good observation. I think this is one of the signs of the "Entitled"
society that we Americans are busy building.

I am always amazed at how many people jump out and run into the store
and have a disabled placard hanging from their car mirror. While we are
at it, equally sad is the high percentage of Mothers with strollers that
think they "deserve" special considerations as well ... just because
they pooped out a kid.

These people are using up the good will and special parking that the
truly disabled need (but many times don't want).

My DH needs a wheel chair to board. He has congestive heart failure and
can't walk up a ramp. Since the only uphill ramp on the ship is the one
you have to use when boarding, I don't think he's doing anything wrong.

We file the medical assistance papers with the cruise line well before
sailing.

There are many people with heart conditions or respiratory conditions
that don't "look" handicapped, but they are just as much in need of a
wheelchair to board or disembark as those without limbs.

That's true but there are also people who abuse the system. It also
happens at airports. And there are also people who use handicapped
stickers to park that are using those that were either issued to
relatives or were stolen.

I would think that someone might need a wheelchair to go the long
distances that are sometimes necessary on the ship.

We had a friend who had a serious medical condition. She looked OK but
couldn't walk very far.

In any event, I don't resent the people who use the wheelchairs.

I wouldn't trade places with the people who need them, nor with the
pathetic life of those who have so little self-worth that they
impersonate those who do.

I am delighted that I don't require a wheel chair or other aid, and
don't deny that privilege to anyone who needs it.

Cruises are fabulous for the handicapped, as they can enjoy many
different ports and experiences.

I only resent the phony that was on SSI and asked for a wheel chair to
board the ship ahead of everyone else and danced non stop in the
Dominican Republic for 3 straight hours!

I guess I was a little jealous of his stamina and he was a pretty good
Meringue dancer too!

People with metal hips and knees too.

I have a metal hip. A nurse once said that it has a limited number of
steps in it, until the plastic liner wears out, and it has to be
replaced. She said to get a parking decal, and said that people might
stare and think you walk perfectly, why do you need it? She said you're
the one that will have to have the surgery later, not them. She said to
use those steps doing things like walking the dog, playing with the
kids, golfing, etc. But don't waste them walking in the parking lot of
a mall.

I was totally cheesed off the other day when I caught a disabled driver using a "normal"
parking spot.

Were you? With a nuclear tragedy of unknown proportions in Nippon and
half the North African/Middle East coming apart at the seams and this
"cheeses you off"?
