Grand Princess or Crown Princess
We are looking at several itineraries but would like to know the difference
between the ships. The Princess website doesn't give capacities for instance. Thanks |

On Cruise Critic and on Wikopedia they give capacities. Crown Princess is a Grand Class ship with an added deck of cabins which means more passengers. Crown has a few added public areas. I would decide by itinerary and price. -- Charles |

Grand Princess or Crown Princess
"Jr." wrote in message ... We are looking at several itineraries but would like to know the difference between the ships. The Princess website doesn't give capacities for instance. Thanks In addition to Charles' information, here is a brief rundown on the two ships. Grand Princess - 2590 passengers, over 700 balconies, 109,000 gross tons, 950 feet in length. Crown Princess - 3080 passengers, nearly 900 balconies, 113,000 gross tons, 952 feet in length. I have sailed on both and just got off the Crown on April 2nd. The Crown will be going into drydock later this year (end of October) for her refurb and the Grand is going in soon (4-11-2011) for a major 21 day refurb where she will lose the Skywalker Nightclub to be replaced by a new nightclub on deck 15. A lot of other work will be done at the same time. She then goes to Europe for the summer starting on May 5th. I have never felt cramped on any of the Princess ships except when the company has all the photographs out in the gallery on Deck 7 or when trying to get through to the front of the ship on either deck 6 or 7 from the mid-ship elevators due to the crowd in the Piaza during shows there. Of the two ships, I like the Crown better. And after the refurbs they will even be better ships (I hope.) Even though the Emerald, Caribbean, Ruby and Crown are the same class of ships, I still like the Caribbean's layout the best. |
