Default EU translation costs

I've just seen that, especially with the new influx of members, that the EU
translation services are now to cost 1.3 billion US dollars.
Does anyone have any info on the total national budgets of, say, Malta or
Slovenia??!!

It's also pretty expensive to shuttle between Brussels and Strasbourg.

~ 1 billion Euro / 450 mio inhabitants = 2,00 Euro per year and inhabitant

Thanks the EU I can now pay the reservation fee for a chalet in France by
bank transfer for 0,35 Euro fee. I'm happy to transfer the EUR 15,00 I've
saved compared to the fees which were applied before for a couple of years
on translation.
Not speaking of the 1,5% of the holiday budget I lost alone due the change
into a foreign currency before the Euro.

And for companies the EU made cross border trading even much more cheaper.
It is not cheaper if every company has to deal with 20 different ruleset and
papers for every market and needs to employ itself a few translators to cope
with this. This would cost the economies EU wide much more in summary.

PS: you could also compare the US defence budget with some national budgets
of EU members. And here you don't have to choose some of the very tiny ones.

And how does it compare to the money the Brits have recently spent on
killing innocent Iraqis?

Which ones were the innocent ones?

[I leave aside the question of whether the UK had any business killing
even guilty Iraqis.]
