Train times from Vilnius
The Deutsche Bahn site is giving travel times from Vilnius (Lithuania)
that seem impossible: 5 hours to Riga, 6 hours to Kaliningrad, 12 hours to Gdansk, 38 hours to Tallinn! Are these times really correct? The Lithuanian site at http://www.litrail.lt/ is useless; it's literally a blank page. -- Yves Bellefeuille |

For instance, the only trains service to Tallinn is via St Petersburg. The trip to Gdansk seems reasonably direct, with a change in Kaliningrad. ************* DAVE HATUNEN ) ************* * Tucson Arizona, out where the cacti grow * * My typos & mispellings are intentional copyright traps * |

"Yves Bellefeuille" wrote in message news The Deutsche Bahn site is giving travel times from Vilnius (Lithuania) that seem impossible: 5 hours to Riga, 6 hours to Kaliningrad, Seems fair to me. In 1989, Riga was 5.5 hours, Kalingrad was 5. Since then the raliways in the Baltics closed completely because they were unmaintained, so at least you can now use them again. tim |

12 hours to Gdansk
The trip to Gdansk seems reasonably direct, with a change in Kaliningrad. In 12 hours?I don't think so. It's rather possible using bus (Vilnius 22.00 - Warsaw 5.45) which runs instead Balti train and next fast train (Warsaw 5.50 - Gdansk 10.00). Peter |

How do people get around in the Baltics, then? By bus? That's how it's done. As someone that will go to extraordinary lengths to avoid buses, I couldn't manage to do it in the Baltics. If you're unlucky, you might catch one passing from Kaliningrad to the Russian mainland. These are particularly nasty! -- --- DFM - http://www.deepfriedmars.com --- -- |
