These many years ago 8-) You might be interested in the little freeware background program I use and recommend called AllChars. This lets me type many common special characters (many of these are used in other languages) very easily, by pressing the ctrl key followed by a two-character mnemonic combination. As examples of how easy they are to remember, for Ó the two characters are ~ and n. For Ú it's c and , For Ø it's u and " Go to http://allchars.zwolnet.com/ to download it. Mine is PopChar; i've been using its improving incarnations since Mac II days. It's one of the only three software programs I use that has regularly instituted upgrades without dumping features I had more use for than some new bells and whistles. A Macintosh program? Sorry, I know next to nothing about the Macintosh or any programs for it. -- Ken Blake |

Some years ago I was working with some Windows CE machines, which only understood US keyboard layouts. The company had loads of keyboards around, but I only managed to find a single useful keyboard. Shops only offers Danish keyboards - even my phone has a DK keyboard. No reason Sweden should be different. |

Windows has systemwide shortcuts for some keys. ü is Alt + 0252 (hold Alt and enter the number on the keypad). The three-digit value following the zero is the one from the windows-1252 codepage. I just use my keyboard. All the accents and whatnot have their own keys. Just press the accent you need, followed by the letter you wish to "accent" and Bob's your uncle. |

With the full program it was simple just to go under Font and select Symbol and any special characters for languages, science and math were easily found on that page and inserted into your document. Now with the home version of Microsoft Word, even typing a simple communication is difficult, and I'm lucky that I have a German keyboard, although as #48 said, using a combination of keys with the mark and the character is possible and simple. Of course, there is also the possibility of finding the character elsewhere on the Internet and copying and pasting, and it's also possible to define keys to give you those characters that you use commonly.
