The 3B tram can be sued for direct transit to the harbor market.

Where does it go if you *don't* file a lawsuit? :-)

Ken,
nothing wrong with these calculations. Perhaps if I may nitpick,
the journey time of half an hour could be over-optimistic, especially
in the rush hours, but apart from that, your plan should work out just
great.

It is just a question of personal preference - I would pick a nice
meal and/or a swim in the pool over the trip to town centre, just to
relax after an overseas (perhaps overnight?) flight.. Of course you're
welcome to do as You like.

OK, thanks.

The amount of time you have may depend on the type of flight. If it is
a short up within the EU you don't have to be at the airport too far
ahead, but if it is an international flight they will probably want you
there earlier.

Thanks very much.

We'll be flying from there to Amsterdam. I assume that is what you
call "a short up within the EU,"

Sorry. That was a typo..... trip... not up.

and we will only have to at the
airport an hour before departure. Is that correct?

In theory, I believe that is correct. When we flew from Tallinn to
Stockholm a few years ago we were assured by our host that half an hour
would be fine. Don't like to cut things that close in airports. A week
later when flying from Stockholm to Copenhagen our host got us to the
airport a little about 45 minutes before the flight. The place was a
zoo. It was the busiest, most congested place I had ever flown out of.
Luckily things moved along quickly and we caught our flight.

8 hours total is a bit on short side to go to town proper (and be back

Thanks, but those things aren't my cup of tea. You say 8 hours is on
the short side, but it seems to me that if we reduce it to 6-1/2 hours
to get back 90 minutes before departure, then deduct a half hour for
the ride to the city and a half hour for the ride back, plus another
hour to wait for shuttles, we have 4-1/2 hours to spend in the city,

They would not be my cup of tea. You can go bowling, swimming and see
movies anywhere. You have a chance to explore a city for a few hours.
Helsinki is not very big. Figure out where the most interesting part of
downtown Helsinki is and get there as quickly as possible. Walk around
find a place to have a nice meal, then head back to the airport.

I need to revive my old sig about my typos and mispellings being
copyright traps.

I guess most people consider the neighbourhood around the Helsinki
Cathedral the most interesting. The church is surrounded by Government
and university buildings. Next to south is the Market square. East from
the square is the Orthodox church. In west is the Esplanadi park (some
shops around). In south is the sea and a fairly large park called
Kaivopuisto. All places mentioned above are very close to each others
(perhaps apart from Kaivopuisto).

About a month ago, my wife and I arrived at Gatwick airport in London
about 10-15 minutes before our flight to Guernsey Island was scheduled
to take off (we didn't plan it that way). We ran--literally--to the
checkin desk, to security, and to the gate, and arrived at the gate
with about two minutes to spare. We made the flight, and amazingly our
luggage, which we had just checked at the desk, also made it. It was a
very nerve-wracking experience and one that I would hate to repeat.
