Lines for Elis Island ferry
I would imagine that the lines for the Statue of Liberty / Elis Island
Ferry are the worst between Memorial Day and Labor Day, especially on weekends. Do the lines decrease somewhat after September 11? If I do not want to partake in a timed tour of the SOL, is there any advantage to buying ferry tickets in advance? Their website states that advance tickets are picked up at Will Call. Does the regular ticket selling booth at Battery Park have long lines, explaining why buying tickets online in advance is worth it? Casey |

Do the lines decrease somewhat after September 11? No significance to that date for these purposes, you know. Basically, whenever the weather gets cooler, the lines decrease. I'd expect the lines to be a bit shorter after Labor Day (more people in school, so presumably somewhat fewer tourists), but they still could be pretty long on weekends in early September. Are the advance ticket prices the same as if you stood on line? Does the regular ticket selling booth at Battery Park have long lines [snip] Yes, most definitely. Generally, when going to a popular tourist attraction, be it in Rome, Paris, or NYC, if I have no doubt that I'm going to a place, I try to buy advance-tickets (or a pass for more than one) to bypass ticket lines. I believe that there a better things to do with my time. |

You san save all of the crowding and delays associated with these ferries, and see some parts of NY/NJ- and some views- which most tourists miss by taking the ferry to Ellis Island from Liberty State Park in New Jersey.
Take PATH to Hoboken or Exchange Place or Pavonia, then take the NJT Light Rail to Liberty State Park Station, and then a 3-minute ride on the #305 bus which meets the train to the ferry dock. Ironically, you can WALK from Liberty State Park to Ellis Island, but they don't let you. LG -- "There's no such thing as Free Parking!" Larry Gould |

For a short time I think it was allowed, and then banned due to some interstate tit for tat threats. -- Barbara Vaughan My email address is my first initial followed by my last name at libero dot it. |

Do the lines decrease somewhat after September 11?
No significance to that date for these purposes, you know. What I meant by that, and I could have worded it better, was that I thought that after Labor Day the crowds would start to decrease due to the official end of summer. But then there would be a spike around September 11 due to many people traveling to NY for memorials and the like. I could imagine people combining 9/11 memorials with a trip to the SOL. Then attendance would drop off to autumn levels. Casey |

Is it a one fare system or do you pay by distance? What does the NJT Light Rail cost? How do you use it? Do you pay to get on the platform or do you buy a ticket? These questions are also essentially answered at that link. As I recall, you have to pay before going through a turnstile, just as is the case with the MTA subway. Is it a one fare system or do you pay by distance? One fare. What does the NJT Light Rail cost? Light rail? I was unfamiliar with it, but look he http://atisweb.njtransit.com/cgi-bin...l?Section=sflr [snip] What does the #305 bus cost? Is it exact fare only? Does it take bills? Buses in New Jersey do take bills. All New Jersey buses I've used charge by distance. Michael If you would like to send a private email to me, please take out the NOTRASH.
