Called Princess to Book Cruise Out of Galveston
....and was told that Galveston is no longer one of their ports Can
someone tell me (Princess couldn't) why they're not leaving out of Galveston any longer? We've only been on two cruises, both out of Galveston, and wanted to (try) to book a Christmas cruise. We LOVED our cruises with them and are sad to learn they'll no longer be available to us Carnival is out of the question, so who else besides RC leaves from there? Thanks, Monica -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

Carnival and Royal Caribbean are your only choices for a 7 day cruise out of Galveston. Princess decided they could make more money by putting the Grand Princess in Florida. Their per-diems in Galveston were pretty low. -- George Leppla http://www.CruiseMaster.com January 20, 2008 - GGC2008 - http://cruisemaster.com/adventure.htm June 5, 2008 9 nt from NJ - http://www.cruisemaster.com/explorer.htm October 26, 2008 Sleazy 5 http://www.cruisemaster.com/sleazy5.htm |

Thanks, Monica Just out of curiosity why is Carnival out of the question? Although we have only done one cruise with them I was very impressed. The food was excellent, the ship well maintained and service quite good. Would not hesitate to try them again. This was on the Destiny out of San Juan. Just a personal choice. We're more conservative, not into the drinking and
partying scene and prefer a ship more suited to our tastes. -- "Monica" replied Just a personal choice. We're more conservative, not into the drinking and partying scene and prefer a ship more suited to our tastes. Monica Monica, not sure if you have ever sailed Carnival, but FWIW we are also of the same mind as you with regards to drinking, partying etc. I generally have a beer or two in the afternoon, unless we are in port and off the ship, a before dinner drink and some wine with dinner. Some evenings I will also have a specialty coffee. In addition we generally are in bed by 11 PM or so. Now I recognise that there may all sorts of carrying on in the wee hours, but it never impinged on us at all. We were on the Carnival cruise in early May and there a fair number of young people, but it was never a problem for us. I am not trying to convince you to try Carnival, but simply relating our experience. Certainly if one goes into a vacation of any sort with certain perceptions and expectations it is easy to be disappointed or to look for things to reinforce those thoughts. I hasten to add that I am not implying that you are like that, but it is a fairly common human trait. If you really like going out of Galveston, why not try carnival? Just don't blame me if you are unhappy if you do :-) Paul Paul Hoffman Burlington ON or "Nothing is so firmly believed as that which is least known" Montaigne |

Monica, unless there is a specific reason, you might want to reconsider Carnival. We've cruised on many different lines and cruised out of many different ports. I can honestly say that Carnival has given us some excellent cruises and excellent food in the past. While it might not carry the cachet of some lines, Carnival really seems to deliver an excellent product for the money. I spent 31 years as a technician at a university working with and exposed to youing people and I have a great deal of respect for them. In addition there is no age monopoly on bad behavior. Besides which when I see bad bahavior on the part of younguns, I tend to blame the adults. So if I offended anyone by the above post I apologise. On a cruise over Christmas and New Year, the atmosphere is a lot different than during, say, mid May. The crew is just like the rest of us, and can suffer from boredom or share in the excitement of a new itinerary or holiday. This is just a very personal opinion, but I feel that the consistency of service has improved over the years with consolidation of the industry and the application of corporate standards and training to a larger fleet. Of course, there will be individual differences that might vary with the Captain, Hotel Manager or the Restaurant Manager experience and expectations. Heck, even the layout of the ship, buffet or dining areas can affect the service passengers might receive. However, my own view is that the bar raises each year.
