Default Thieves stealing England's Bronze statuary

From the NT Times, it was in the Herald Tribune this morning.

Thieves Fond of Heavy Lifting Are Making Off With England's Bronze
Sculptures
By SARAH LYALL

LONDON, Jan. 25 ‹ The stolen works include the enormous ‹ a hulking two-ton
sculpture by Henry Moore ‹ and the comparatively modest ‹ a three-foot-long
dung beetle by the artist Wendy Taylor. In between, there was a seven-foot
lion, a life-size warthog and one of three abstract human figures that make
up the sculptor Lynn Chadwick's huge "Three Watchers."

Comments; If thieves are able to haul away two tons of statuary without
being caught, this does not speak well for police services. The article
indicates that this is an often committed type of crime.

Maybe they should ask for aid from Bush's terrorists chasers who have
tapped every telephone in the world.

If planned reasonably well, it only takes a very short time to nick
something like that.
No-one's going to question the workers if a truck turns up even in the
middle of the day and starts loading up. At night when there's no-one
around might be more suspicious, but less likely to be seen at all.

Mind you, having seen photos of the stolen works of art, all I can say is
"thank goodness". The dung beetle's ok.

Fascinating! This happened three days ago. At least your weather reports
tend to be on the same day. Breaking news- thieves stole a Vermeer and
Rembrandt from Boston's Gardner Museum in 1991!

I may not want to dine next to your dog, but why not let him do the news
reports from now on?

It would be interesting to know if they are being stolen for their scrap
value - bronze scrap is very valuable - or their artistic merit. If the
former, then most likely they will be cut up and melted down in very
short time.

For resale as art, not metal.

The Rev Gaston already posts on this group. And these are a "dog's eye view
of the news", he is interested in the "dog bites man" angle.

I give the human side. Not, David, enough grump for the day, try smiling
it won't hurt.

As long as there are more supervisors than workers, and everyone wears
hardhats, they could steal Big Ben and no one would raise an eyebrow.

Like walking around a hospital. Wear white, clip on any plastic ID
card, carry a clip-board and you can go anywhere.

Nor should the Brits bring garden dwarfs, they are subject to
