Insurance
Hello, again,
I've read some horror stories about cruise insurance companies that turned out NOT to be insurance companies (Allied?); BUT, I feel more comfortable having insurance to cover cancellations, medical, baggage, etc. Some background: wifey and I are cruising Carnival Conquest in May from New Orleans. I'm late 60's on Medicare with ordinary, controlled heart disease, she's early 60's with NO insurance (3-time cancer survivor--NO WAY!!!!). Neither of us expect a problem, but one cannot guarantee that. I read a horror story about a man who had a heart attack and had to be airlifted ship to shore. Because of choppy seas, both helicopter and spotter plane were required. Resulting evacuation costs alone were $47,000! AND, he had NO insurance. Now, the questions: anyone have recommendations for companies? Coverage? Is baggage insurance worth it, considering that the flight and cruise will be separately booked? What do you all think of Travelex as an insurer? Many thanks again for your help. Regards, Lakeside |

I always use Travel Guard for travel insurance. I travel 2 or 3 times a year
and have never had to use it but it sure is a comfort. I too have a very bad heart so realize anything can happen. A medical evacuation could put an end to all travel because of the cost. |

What do you all think of Travelex
as an insurer? Good company and two good plans. The lower priced Travel Lite plan has a combined medical & medical evac coverage of $50,000 p/p although that can be increased with an additional cost if you think you need it. The higher priced Travel Plus plan has a $500,000 limit for those coverages. Depending on the age of the traveler and the trip cost to be insured, it can often be less expensive to buy the Travel Plus plan rather than buying the Travel Lite plus the additional coverage. Check both ways before buying. Both are primary coverage. Travelex does an excellent job when it comes to claims processing, etc. http://www.travelexinsurance.com |

For a wide selection of competitive quotes I use "Insure my Trip". They
offer 51 different travel insurance plans from 14 different companies. Great site and easy to use. (I have no affiliation with it - just a pleased customer) http://insuremytrip.com/ john Now, the questions: anyone have recommendations for companies? Coverage? Is baggage insurance worth it, considering that the flight and cruise will be separately booked? What do you all think of Travelex as an insurer? Many thanks again for your help. Regards, Lakeside |

You need to check the policies to see what is covered. For example, if
something should happen with the heart disease, some companies may call that pre-existing and not cover anything from it. some may cover it. Just saying to make sure you understand the coverages you are getting. If you had that heart attack, you want to make sure they will have covered it and not call it pre-existing. Baggage insurance depends on what current coverages you have. Will your homeowners cover it? Are you carrying more then what the airlines will cover, etc. It's usually not a significant add on if it's not already included. wrote in message ... Mike is right, be very careful of anything which suggests that pre-existing
conditions will not be covered. -- DG in Cherry Hill, NJ "HDawson228" wrote in message ... Buy coverage, not premium cost. |

Couple of cruising friends, and TA, had personal experience with them that was positive. And, H: I agree with you. A few bucks difference ain't worth the heartaches. Besides, if you're going close to first class with accommodations, why not do the same with essentials! Best to all, and many thanks, Lakeside |
