spear-fishing in AUS?
The laws are all State laws, and so vary slightly in different parts of
Australia. NSW is typical. The main restrictions a 1. Not with Scuba - only snorkelling. (Some States allow lobsters to be caught with Scuba, but not speargun use. NSW doesn't allow any use of Scuba for fishing). 2. Not in protected waters - eg bays, harbours, rivers etc. Only in open water. 3. No powerheads at all. Spearfishing is not that common or popular, and seems to be frowned on by almost everybody (other fisherman because they think it unsporting, swimmers because they worry about people swimming around with loaded weapons). Not, of course, that anybody is likely to say anything to somebody carrying a speargun around ... do you need a boat to spear-fish or are there reefs that legally accessible
from the beach without any floatation device? "Peter Webb" wrote in message u... The laws are all State laws, and so vary slightly in different parts of Australia. NSW is typical. Reef - as in coral reef?
I have never spearfished in the tropical parts of Australia, and don't know the rules. There are certainly lots of rock reefs all around Australia that are accessible from shore without a boat. There is a popular one just up the road from where I live in Sydney - Long Reef near Dee Why. by reef i meant not necessarily a tropical reef, it is just that my
spearfishing experiences have always been around reefs/rocks ... i am sure with a boat you can get out into the open water and spear around kelp patties, etc. what kind of fish do you spear down under? p.s. is the lobster season on year-round?
