Default Hong Kong -> Shanghai

We are coming from Melbourne and want to get to Shanghai. Our Frequent
Flyers will only take us as far as HK, so we need a bridging flight
to Shanghai and back to HK. Two adults and a 6 month old travelling.

Prefer Dragon Air. Thinking of
Apr 18 Depart Melbourne
18-20 HK
20-27 Shanghai
27-29 HK
29 Return to Melbourne

Does anyone know what a return flight costs at the moment?

Any suggestions for web sites to get airfare quotes from.
I have seen www.bsr.com.hk.

Should we purchase ahead, or can you usually get a reasonable
deal purchasing locally, bearing in mind we only have a day
to do it in?

Thanks.

Don't know about buying it in Hong Kong, but if you have time to
spare, consider flying out of Shenzhen or Guangzhou to Shanghai. It
should be cheaper. It's a couple of hour train ride to Guangzhou or a
train or ferry trip to Shenzhen airport.

I think that there even is a hydrofoil ferry from the HK airport to Shenzhen
airport. Domestic flight in China - usually on new Boeings or Airbuses'es -
are up to about 1/3 of flight out of HK. HK-Shanghai I'll guess you have to
pay between 2500 to 3200 HK$ for a return. From Shenzhen I'll guess the
price to be something like 1000-1500 HK$

You should probably try China Eastern for the flight to Shanghai, or
consider China Southern for a flight from Guangzhou to Shanghai. China
Eastern has proven to be a reliable airline in my experiences.
