Default Round the World?

Hiya, Im considering doing the following trip. London - overland China,
(via Russia), fly Thailand, fly Australia, NZ, and back to London. Not sure
about homewards route, perhaps America? Would definatly like to fit in cook
islands, Fiji, or some other tropical place if possible.

The problem is I want to goto South Africa to do some sararis etc. Im not
sure if I can fit it in on my return route, as round the world tickets with
star alliance and one world, dont let u go back on yourself, (and I would
have to fly pass uk, if comming from nz).

I could do South Africa on outward route, but really want to do journey from
London - Russia/china overland.

Any suggestions please?

I am a low-cost student backpacker, so can only afford really cheap flights
etc.

Thanks Phil :-)

FWIW, my $.02:

The USA has a lot to offer, especially natural wonders, but you can do
that when you're old and decrepit. Better to see the places that are
difficult to do now, while you're healthy enough to enjoy them. Also,
the US ain't cheap.

Traveling across the Pacific can be very expensive if you want to make
lots of stops. SEAsia, OTOH is relatively cheap and offers incredible
adventures.
Cook Islands are nice, but unless you spend a bunch of money, (or find
a yacht to crew on,) you'll be stuck on Rarotonga, a nice _little_
island. French Polynesia is much nicer, and from Tahiti you can get to
Moorea easily. Sailing across the Pacific is usually done East-to-West
through the southern islands, so you may find it difficult to get a
boat heading East - and it wouldn't be the most fun trip, either,
considering the winds and currents.

Fiji is great. nuff said. The Phillippines are lots of fun. Indo is
amazing. So is Thailand, especially outside of Bangkok. Burma is well
worth the hassle. India and Nepal are awesome. I think just about all
of South and Southeast Asia is fascinating and incredible for
traveling. It can be difficult and uncomfortable, too, but what the
heck.

Africa, OTOH, is extremely difficult, if you're going overland. It's a
real grind if you're doing it low-budget. You could fly over the whole
thing, but then you'd miss East Africa, which is pretty nice. (Hell,
the highlands of Kenya are paradise.)

If it were me, I'd do Africa on another trip and try to fit in South
America.
