Default Question about Journal Square Neighborhood

Hi, I am going to start my job in mid-town Manhattan and considering
living in Journal Square in Jersey City because of the lower rent.

But I have heard of some bad saying about crimes and neighborhood of
Jersey City, so I am wondering if Journal Square is part of the bad
neighborhood.

I understand that Jersey City is large and the neighborhood is better
for the areas close to the Hudson River. But can anyone tell me that
what's the safe neighborhood and what's the neighborhood to avoid in
Jersey City? Your help/information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ed

I might be wrong, but I seem to recall that the FBI's web site at
http://www.fbi.gov has a section where you can enter a zip code and it
will give you the crime stats for that area.

A ZIP code is much too large for info about a specific neighborhood.

JC is a big city with many neighborhoods; Edward's choices will depend
on his income.

Thanks. How about Weehawken neighborhood?

Wehawken is nice, but I've heard the bus is surprisingly slow, since
you're taking local roads into the Lincoln tunnel.

But will bus still be the best option once Hudson Bergen Light Rail opens as
far as Weehawken? Or will it be better to get HBLR and then PATH (or
perhaps a ferry) to reach Manhattan?

BTW, when is this section of HBLR due to open (can't be far off now)?

I think the bus + nyc subway will still be better, since the Hudson trolley
is typically slow. Also it will let you off at the far south end of
Hoboken terminal, which is a good walk from the PATH entrance. It's close
to the ferry terminal, so if you were going to WFC it's probably a good
match.

But then again NY Waterway just announced that it is raising fares and
cutting service, so you have to take that into account too.

In conclusion I'd take bus+subway from Weehawken for all destinations
except WFC.
