Sarin gas: The deadly chemical weapon Syria might be ready to use
Sarin gas: The deadly chemical weapon Syria might be ready to use
"Yesterday, a US official told NBC News that Syria has begun to mix the chemical components of sarin gas, and has loaded the deadly nerve agent into bombs on or near airfields.... .....According to the CDC, sarin is odorless, so most victims have no idea that they were exposed to the gas. Within a minute of exposure, people experience runny nose, tightness in the chest, and pupil constriction. After several minutes, they began having difficulty breathing, become nauseated, and start to drool. Soon they lose control of their bodily functions, begin twitching and ultimately suffocate in a series of convulsive spasms... ...The first known incidence of sarin being used as part of chemical warfare occurred in 1988 in the Kurdish city of Haljaba, in northern Iraq. Close to 5,000 people died over the course of two days after 20 aircraft dropped chemicals on the town. According to the BBC....," |

IN A BINARY MUNITION, THE TWO PRECURSOR CHEMICALS ARE STORED SEPARATELY AND ONLY MIXED TO FORM THE CHEMICAL AGENT IMMEDIATELY BEFORE OR WHEN THE ROUND IS IN FLIGHT. THUS, THE SHELF LIFE OF THE AGENT BECOMES IRRELEVANT; MOREOVER, THE MUNITION IS SAFER TO HANDLE AND STORE. BY 1990 IRAQ HAD SUCCESSFULLY TESTED 155-MM ARTILLERY SHELLS AND OTHER BINARY MUNITIONS AND LAUNCHED A BALLISTIC MISSILE WITH A BINARY WARHEAD AS WELL. CIA BELIEVES THAT A SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF IRAQ'S NERVE AGENT STOCKPILE NOW CONSISTS OF BINARY CHEMICAL WEAPONS WHICH WOULD NOT BE SUBJECT TO DEGRADATION. |

According to the BBC....," Here we go again, beating the war drums so that we can use more of our military equipment to kill the wrong people so that we will have an excuse to buy some more. First of all, I don't believe that chemical weapons are all that dangerous. How many people in the world have ever been killed by chemicals weapons? Nuclear weapons, yes, they are extremely dangerous. Chemical weapons, no. The best way to kill people is with guns, hand grenades, and explosives. That way you don't have to worry about which way the wind is blowing, etc. Second, we can't even solve our own problems. So what makes us think we can solve someone else's? More people will undoubtedly die as the result of auto accidents, murder, and lack of health care in one year in the U.S., than are likely to be killed in Syria. Third, you can't believe those lying *******s in Washington, anyway. |

How many Jews were gassed in the Holocaust? ..i Answer: There were six major gassing centres: Auschwitz II (minimum estimate for number of victims gassed: 900,000) Treblinka II (minimum estimate: 850,000) Sobibor (mimum estimate: 250,000) Chelmno (about 152,000) Belzec (actual number recorded by the SS: 434,508) Majdanek - number disputed. (Much depends on the functions that the camp served). Excluding Majdanek, that gives a minimum estimated total of over 2.586 million gassed |

Sarin gas: The deadly chemical weapon Syria might be ready to use

Some of the weapons are binaries, with separate containers for the raw materials which make it. The synthesis is accomplished in a cloud of materials generated by the explosion. So a country could well say "we have no nerve gases" which is a half truth. What has always troubled me about Iraq is that Saddam DID HAVE WMDs that he used against the Kurds. But no such weapons of any kind were ever found in Iraq. Now I believe that he had no such weapons, but it still troubles me to question what he did with the WMDs he used against the Kurds... since he certainly didn't use all of what he had and suddenly decided he'd used them all and no longer wanted any more. Certainly Saddam proved he was a megalomaniac, since there were a number of opportunities for him to receive sanctuary offers from Saudi Arabia and Bahrain; but he was psychologically driven to go down with the ship. So any decision on his part to simply quit using and manufacturing WMDs, and to dispose of all the poison gas that he obviously did have, does not seem to meet the profile of such a megalomaniac. Thus, I find it hard to insult or ridicule those who did believe he had kept such WMDs, although I do fault U.S. intelligence for not being totally aware of what was going on in Iraq, in the mind of Saddam, considering he had already had his butt spanked once by Papa Bush.
