Paris has multiple public swimming pools. Most are indoors for
year-round use. Day charges are moderate. There is a large one at Les Halles. There's also one right at Montparnasse, roughly under the department store. Be aware that they may possibly be closed for the month of August for "vacances".and repairs. The city info office on the north side of the Hotel de Ville sometimes has a brochure listing the pools. WARNING: Info at least 5 years old. |

I usually find that I do a lot of walking on vacation, but there are aspects of my fitness routine that I would miss. I figure I could do the enough walking to keep fit without the usually facilities, but since I do 1000m along with my weight routine and 1500 on the days in between I would really miss the swimming, and I confess that if I were away from it for 2-3 weeks I might lose interest keeping up that part of the regimen. When I take clients through Paris, we routinely clock 15 miles or so of walking. That should be enough fitness for anyone, especially for only a few days. I might accept that you occasionally clock 15 miles in a day, but seriously doubt that there are many people who can walk that far in a day. Bear in mind that some people visiting Paris have been travelling around for a bit and may not have had the chance to get their exercise. While walking is undoubtedly great exercise, they also have regular exercise programs that involve particular muscle groups. This reminds me a bit of people who come to Paris and spend their whole time here in their hotel rooms watching CNN to "keep up." -- Transpose hotmail and mxsmanic in my e-mail address to reach me directly. |

I might accept that you occasionally clock 15 miles in a day, but seriously doubt that there are many people who can walk that far in a day. As I've said, I do this routinely with clients. One doesn't notice it when seeing interesting things over the course of a 12- or 13-hour day. Many people can walk this far without any problem, as long as it's not a marathon. With some clients, I've walked at least 32 km in one day (probably more, but I know that I've done at least that much). Bear in mind that some people visiting Paris have been travelling around for a bit and may not have had the chance to get their exercise. Travelling is excellent exercise in itself; they don't need anything else. While walking is undoubtedly great exercise, they also have regular exercise programs that involve particular muscle groups. If they are that obsessed with exercise, I suggest they stay home, preferably within easy sprinting distance of a complete fitness center. Nobody needs to exercise any particular muscle groups every 12 hours. -- Transpose hotmail and mxsmanic in my e-mail address to reach me directly. |

We had better put on our boots and roll up our pants because the sh*t is getting deep. |
